Founded by Nikki Vargas in 2018, Unearth Women was a quarterly women's travel magazine that began with a mission to lift women’s voices, show travelers how to support women worldwide, and spotlight women and BIPOC-owned businesses globally. While the name Unearth Women came from the idea of "unearthing" women’s stories, the magazine's mission rested in the belief that travelers are uniquely positioned to positively impact a destination by supporting its local women and minority communities.
At its height, Unearth Women magazine was distributed by Curtis North America and sold in Walmart, Target, and over 800 Barnes & Noble bookstores across the United States. In addition, Unearth Women was sold in select bookstores across Canada and overseas. Unearth Women magazine was featured in The New York Times, Good Morning America, CNN, Vogue, and beyond. As Founder, Nikki oversaw the Unearth Women team, working closely and collaboratively to manage the day-to-day operations, editorial direction, and commercial expansion of Unearth Women magazine and its website. While the magazine has since folded, you can find Unearth Women's stories online or shop its book, Wanderess, in stores now.

A Look Back: Unearth Women Magazine
Unearth Women magazine was a quarterly magazine that centered around a unifying theme for each issue. Unearth Women's first issue—the Resilience Issue—shared stories that showcased women's resilience across countries and cultures, featuring EMMY-winning correspondent, Isobel Yeung on the cover. Unearth Women's second issue—the Consent Issue—explored many of the issues that arose during the #MeToo movement, spotlighting stories around consent from Thailand to feminist political parties arising in Denmark, and featuring CNN's Lisa Ling on the cover. For Unearth Women's third issue—the Power Issue—the magazine highlighted inspiring women across the travel industry who are reshaping the landscape through innovative ideas. And finally, for Unearth Women's fourth and final print issue—the Inclusivity Issue—the pages were a celebration of diversity, putting the stories of minorities and LGBTQIA+ groups front and center. While Unearth Women's print magazine folded, you can check out digital versions of each of the previous issues below.
